How do I get rid of discolorations on my menstrual cups?
Most stains
and discolorations on Talisi cups can be removed and should not be an
indication that it’s time to change your cup. What discolorations and long-term
accumulation of dirt and debris on your cup do is that they predispose your cup
to hardening, cuts and leakages.
Why do
improperly cleaned cups leak?
If you look
closely at Talisi menstrual cups, you will notice some holes. These holes are
very useful and should not be left clogged. They serve to create the suction
seal that holds your cups exactly where you want them in your vaginal canal.
When one or several of these holes become clogged, an adequate suction seal
would not be created, and leakages would be noticed.
To get rid
of tough stains, try doing the following.
- Using a mild water-based soap and
a toothbrush or mildly abrasive cloth, gently rub against the discoloration
until it comes off.
- Please use only scent-free soaps
and those that aren’t harsh.
- Boiling the cups can eliminate
tough stains as well. (See above for how to boil your cups.)
- Some people recommend using 3%
hydrogen peroxide on your cups. Please note that even though this is highly
effective, soaking your menstrual cup overnight or for several hours in
hydrogen peroxide, weakens your cup over time. This would eventually result in
a clean looking but weaker cup that would not last you as many years as Talisi
cups are known to last.
Please note that discolorations are very common in menstrual cups, so do not be too surprised if you try everything to prevent them but still discover one or two tough spots on your cup. To prevent discolorations from happening, ensure you take the time to wash your cups every time. The key isn’t to scrub hard but wash properly, making sure to properly clean every nook and cranny of your menstrual cup.
