How do I clean my cups at home?
Cleaning
your cups at home requires nothing more than a mild, non-scented soap and
drinkable water. An old toothbrush may be used when tackling tougher or dried
up stains.
How often
should you wash your cups?
At least
every 12 hours (when in use). Every single time you empty your cup, please do
not get tempted to insert it back without properly cleaning it. This will help
prevent tough stains and discolorations from appearing on your cup.
There are
several soaps designed specifically for washing menstrual cups, feel free to
purchase one if you wish.
Should I
boil my cups?
Boiling
your cups isn’t absolutely necessary but some people opt for it as not only a
cleaning method but a sterilization technique. If you wash your cups properly
after every use, boiling them won’t be necessary. However, if you have recently
treated or dealt with a vaginal infection, boiling your cups would not be a bad
idea. (Please ensure you get adequate treatment from your gynecologist or GP
for any infection or if you ever have suspicious vaginal discharge or other
unusual symptoms).
How to boil
my cup
Place your
already washed cup inside a metal whisk and place the whisk into boiling water
for a minute or two. Bring out your cup(s) and rinse with drinkable water.
