Can Talisi menstrual cups be used if I have a tilted uterus?
Yes, Talisi
cups can be used if you have a tilted uterus.
What is a
Tilted Uterus?
For those
who are not very familiar with the term, a tilted, tipped or retroverted uterus
is one whose vertical opening points towards the front as opposed to backwards
(in the anteverted uterus).
The opening
may also be located lower or higher than it would be in someone with an
anteverted uterus.
Anteverted
- means the uterus is tipped forward so its opening (the opening of the cervix)
points backward. Please attach image here.
Retroverted
- means the uterus is tipped backward so its opening (the opening of the
cervix) points forward. Please attach image here.
The key is
to ensure that the cup sits below the opening of the cervix to catch all of the
flow. All this requires is more studying of your cervix and vagina’s anatomy.
It would also require more practice, until you get a grasp of how and where is
best to place your cup. If your cervix lies lower (which is more common in
women with a tilted uterus), placing your cup lower in the vaginal canal
ensures more comfort.
Insert a
clean finger into your vagina to locate the cervix. Doing this will help you
estimate how high up you are to place your cup. Remember, your goal is to place
the cup beneath the cervix and not on it.
Also, since
your cup is placed lower, it would be necessary to properly trim the stem, so
it doesn’t come in contact with your vaginal walls or pelvic floor muscles,
causing you discomfort.
How To Trim
the Stem of Your Cup:
- Wash your hands.
- Get a pair of scissors.
- Trim away most of the stem.
- With a nail file, smoothen sharp
corners or edges of whatever is left of the stem, so it doesn’t graze your
inner parts.
- Clean your cup.
